FAQs

Entering Airwards

What are the benefits of entering Airwards / an Awards platform?

There are many benefits for entering Airwards, too many to list here so we’ve outlined them in this handy blog post for you. We have also provided a list of reasons to enter awards in general, check out the blog post here.

What are the limitations of my entry?

We have put a max word limit on all of the text fields on the entry form/s, you will see a word count indicator.  The word count is set to ensure that the judges are comparing like-for-like entries and that they dedicate approximately the same time to each.

My work is part of a consortia, how do I credit?

There is a field on the entry form where credit can be given to other entities involved. It is the responsibility of the entrant to ensure that correct credit is given where required.

Does the entry need to be in English?

The language of the programme is English.

Any entries not written in English will be translated for the purpose of judging using Google Translate. Airwards cannot be held responsible for any mis-translations made on entries not submitted in English.

How will my images and/or supporting documents be used?

Any supporting documents will be used for the purpose of judging only and will not be shared outside of this.

We require all entrants to upload one image (this can be a photograph or graphic), which visually represents your entry, in 1920x1080 pixels with a minimum DPI of 72 (300 is preferred).

This will be used by Airwards on social media and airwards.online to promote your work should you win - this will be in the public domain so don’t include any sensitive data in the image. If the image submitted is not in the requested format the Airwards team reserves the right to crop it as required.

Our activities don't quite fit the description and criteria. Can we still enter?

Our category descriptions and criteria have been written to guide entrants on what content should be detailed in their entries. However, we do not expect square pegs to fit in round holes… Some of your work might not fit entirely with any one specific category. In these cases, the descriptions and criteria are open to an element of interpretation and rest assured that our judges will still take into account entries that are strongly aligned with the overall context of the category.

Will I receive feedback from a submission?

No matter the result, you will receive a free judges’ feedback report which can also be requested by  contacting us via the website form here, and ensure you mark the subject with “Entrants / Submissions”, we’ll aim to get back to you within 4-8 weeks after the final winners have been announced. No feedback will be given prior to this.

Eligibility

Can I enter as an individual or is Airwards for companies only?

Provided your work is Innovative, Responsible and Tangible, Airwards is open for anyone.

We also have a number of free-to-enter awards celebrating the people behind the drones giving you the opportunity to nominate individuals who inspire you in the industry.

How do you define company types?

There are various different measurements available around the world to categorise a business. Three that are applicable to nearly all businesses are number of employees, annual turnover, operating age. While these are not always in accord with each other and the below is not an exact science, we’re defining them by the following:

  • Startup

    • < 25 ppl or

    • Annual turnover of no more than £5m

    • < 3 years trading

  • SME

    • 25-249 people or

    • Annual turnover of between £5m - £50m

    • + 3 years trading

  • Enterprise

    • + 250 people or

    • Annual Turnover of more than £50m

    • + 3 years trading

Will my entry be up against other company types?

For the inaugural year we didn't want to split the awards by company size. This was because the outcome of Airwards is based on the scoring and not the size of the company behind the submission.

This scoring levels the playing field and we have ensured that the submissions form does not favour any marketing budget and can be fulfilled by anyone in any country.

Airwards is about finding the most innovative, responsible and real-world drone use cases having a positive impact. We focus on the use case submitted and if it fulfils the required criteria, regardless of the size of the company behind it.

Shortlist / Honourable Mentions / Winners

What is the difference between them?

Entrant

  • A project or person enters into the awards

Shortlist

  • A project or person scored by the judges in the top half of all of the entries

Honourable Mention

  • A project or person which did not win but shows such promise that they deserved a special mention

Winner

  • The project or person who scored highest in the category entered

If I win, does this mean Airwards endorses my company?

Airwards is an independent awards programme which is not affiliated with any company.

All entries will be scored by a panel of industry leading judges, based on the specific project entered. Winning an Airward celebrates the innovation and responsibility of the project and is not an endorsement of the company entering.

When will we hear if we’ve won?

Check our social media channels. The complete awards timeline can be found here.
